So school is officially over and i couldn't be happier! although i have to say this was probably my favorite class i've ever had (except for my "warren" class in chicago). i had a great group of kids, they were from various backgrounds, but meshed so well together. this year we asked our friends and family to send us postcards so we could learn about our world. we had an outstanding response and received over 300 postcards! we had postcards from 40 of our 50 states and over 20 countries. my students peaked an interest to learn about different cultures and regions - it was truly a remarkable learning experience! my students were overwhelmed with the fact that so many people took a minute out of their day and thought of us. this is such a simple thing and i think we all too often forget this when we do receive a card, letter, email, or call - that someone took the time to write a quick hello, or call to check in...anyway, i thought it was sweet that a group of 9 year olds were able to realize that!
along with the postcard project, joe and i volunteered to paint our school playground! it was a long and HOT (97) day! we worked from 8:00-6:30 with about 6 other people. we painted the US map, hopscotch courses, four-square, basketball courts, stepping stones, ABC maze and much more. although it was hotter than heck and some of us got a little sunburnt, it was well worth it! the kids at our school are going to love it when they come back in the fall.
so my school projects are over and now it's time to start our house projects - staining our decks, installing new light fixtures, redecorating our living room. it should be a busy summer and i think i'm going to like it!
